Make the Spaetzles
Basic spaetzle recipe |

While you are making the spaetzle caramelize the onions with half the melted butter |

Grate the Emmentaler Cheese |

Add a bit of cream to the spaetzle and 1/2 cup cheese

This is another sauce I make to lower the calories
it is non fat sour cream and laughing cow cheese heated lightly in the
microwave. |
Add the sauce to the Spaetzle |

Then I found a 2% swiss cheese that lowered the fat content

Add some butter to the bottom of your glass pan

Add a layer of Spaetzle then onions, then cheese |

Repeat the layers finish with some onions. |
Bake in 350 degree oven for 20 -30 minutes till lightly browned and bubbling |
Let sit for a few minutes before cutting and you can cut a nice layered square. |
