Every year thousands of folks explore the "Tour de Spargel" or Asparagus Routes to enjoy the season that the Germans celebrate called Spargelzeit or " Asparagus Time". To Germans the asparagus is not just a good vegetable to eat, but a food they look at with reverence that centuries ago was considered only for royalty and has been perfected by German farm techniques.
It would be a great Spring holiday or vacation to travel on one of these routes.
The Baden Spargel Route is about 86 miles and the Lower Saxony Asparagus Route is 466 miles long. Along these routes during Spargelzeit you will find Spargelfests, asparagus fields with seminars or pick your own asparagus tours, museums, cultural and historical sites, lakes, beautiful landscapes and restaurants offering all types of Spargel specialties and combinations.
Schrobenhausen is where asparagus is happening in Bavaria, and they have the European Spargel museum there also. |
