More Munich Oktoberfest Fun
Food and Music

Hope everyone is feeling as good as I do today
Some days are very painful but there are many good ones.

In going through some video's of this year's Oktoberfest,
I am struck by how good some of the video quality is and how
it makes me feel like I am there.

Turn on the Music

Munich Oktoberfest Opening 2019

from travel travel travel

This is a fun video to watch. The folks are held back about 100 yards from the opening bell. Then it's like a Black Friday Sale in the US, only instead of shopping you run to get a good place in a tent (Festzelt). One difference is there is no pushing, everyone seems courteous as they run in their lederhosen and dirndl's many with a beer already in hand. You feel your part of the race and fun watching this video.

Then the running doesn't stop till you get to your tent to find a good place to sit.

from travel travel travel

Once you get inside you get a good spot at the table then stand on the table so your fiends can find you.

The Video quality is so good you really feel like you are inside this tent and can almost smell the beer and the pretzels

Chai Patlom

This is a darling video that shows early in the day music in the tents at Oktoberfest
Since it is family friendly in the morning and afternoons, the Oom Pah Bands with the lovely brass instruments

from Chai Patom

Again the video quality is so good and people get up very very early then run to get a good seat near the band.
I can get it through this video.

Be sure to click the icon on the far right hand corner to make this full screen and watch it,
The quality is excellent, you will feel like you are there with a ring side seat next to the band and with the tables and folks dancing.

One of the most popular desserts at the Oktoberfest is.....

Apfelstrudel

I can't think of a better dessert for the festive fall and Oktoberfest.

How about giving it a try, Here is the recipe with step by step pictures

The many ways the locals eat Weisswurst
at the Wiesen

This is a subject always of great discussion. Watch this video and you can see how the local men AND women have this down to science each doing it their own way, pulling the meat away from the skin effortlessly.

Make your own Bratwurst

I am still an amateur at making bratwurst and still need to master making a good Weisswurst before I share
it with you. I do recommend making your own Wurst. It is fun to see it all come together from
good pork and all the sudden you have a sausage with that wonderful texture that is unique.
I made this Thuringer style because when we lived in Southern California we liked to BBQ year around.
I will make some Weisswurst next to share with you.

German Oktoberfest Music

Hande zum Himmel
(Hands to Heaven)

This is a very popular Oktoberfest songs where everyone sings with the band
and the hands go up high as you can imagine during the chorus

feiern,
die ganze Welt ist ein Verein.

Und dann die Hände zum Himmel,
komm lasst uns fröhlich sein,
wir klatschen zusammen
und keiner ist allein,
und dann die Hände zum Himmel,
komm lasst uns fröhlich sein,

Und dann die Hände zum Himmel,
komm lasst uns fröhlich sein,
wir klatschen zusammen
und keiner ist allein,
und dann die Hände zum Himmel,
komm lasst uns fröhlich sein,
wir klatschen zusammen
und keiner ist allein,
wir klatschen zusammen
und keiner ist allein.

English Hände zum Himmel Lyrics (Translation)

"Hands to the skies"

If you're not in the mood today,
let everything be as it is,
we want to drink, drink another one,
becasue you forget your worries,
if you sometimes feel so alone as well,
believe me, it doesn't have to be,
because this evening we're going to celebrate,
the whole world is one society.

And then hands to the skies,
Come let us be merry,
we're clapping together
and nobody is alone,
and then hands to the skies,
Come let us be merry,

And then hands to the skies,
Come let us be merry,
we're clapping together
and nobody is alone,
and then hands to the skies,
Come let us be merry,
we're clapping together
and nobody is alone,
we're clapping together
and nobody is alone

Breathless Through the Night (Atemlos durch die Nacht)

Since it was released in late 2013 by Helene Fischer, Breathless Through the Night (Atemlos durch die Nacht) has become an instant German party hit.  The following year, this song about love and living in the moment, became one of the main Oktoberfest jams.  When done by a live band the song makes the entire tent come alive.   In the years to come, Atemlos durch die Nacht, has a chance to move way up our list as it solidifies itself as a top Oktoberfest song.

Round Spaetzle Pan
stainless steel
with Scraper

I like this round version of the spaetzle tool as it fits nicely on a pot. Many great reviews on this pan.

Westmark Spaetzle press

This is a wonderful tool from Germany, that makes the longer Spaetzle noodles. My German friend brought one over from Germany for me.
