The history of Zwilling J.A. Henckels begins on June 13, 1731 in Solingen, Germany. Knife-maker Peter Henckels registered the "TWIN" symbol, also the Gemini symbol because it was June, as his trademark with the Cutlers' Guild of Solingen. This symbol, which is now well known throughout the world, is thus one of the oldest trademarks in the world. The name of the company today - Zwilling J.A. Henckels - was given to the Company by a descendent of Peter Henckels, Johann Abraham Henckels (J.A.).

Solingen, Germany is in Westphalia, Western Germany has been the home of famous cutlery starting with Swordsmiths since Medival times.

J.A. Henckels Four Star 3-Piece Starter Set with Bonus Steel

Product Description
three-piece set equips a kitchen with the essential knives needed to prepare any meal: a 4-inch paring knife, a 6-inch utility/sandwich knife, and an 8-inch chef's knife. As a bonus, included with the knives in a handsome gift package is a 9-inch sharpening steel to keep their edges aligned. From Henckels Four Star line, the three knives are first-rate. The paring knife is fully forged from a single piece of steel. The other two knives are formed by the high-tech process Henckels employs in manufacturing all its premium cutlery lines. Three high-carbon, stainless-steel types are welded into what appears to be a single piece so a knife's parts have distinct, desirable characteristics.

J.A. Henckels International Classic Forged 7-Piece Stainless-Steel Knife Set with Hardwood Block

Henckels is acknowledged as one of the world's finest cutlery manufacturers of high-end knives. Henckels developed its International line, featuring knives that still perform admirably in the kitchen, for a more moderate price. This seven-piece Classic set is manufactured using high-carbon stainless steel, a premium material, but one that's of slightly lesser quality than the company's other cutlery lines. The knives are well balanced in the hand, with narrow yet still heavy handles for thorough slicing. The set includes a 4-inch paring knife, a 5-inch serrated utility knife, a 7-inch hollow-edge santoku, and an 8-inch chef's knife. A 9-inch sharpening steel keeps their edges in order, and a pair of kitchen shears to snip herbs, flowers, or string is also included. Everything stores neatly in an attractive natural hardwood block. The variety of knives gives you an arsenal to handle virtually any kitchen task, from slicing vegetables and meat to mincing garlic to dividing a long loaf of French bread. Durable and attractive, the knives feature Henckels' trademark black polypropylene handles, each fastened by three rivets to the fully visible tang. While the knives are dishwasher-safe, hand washing is recommended. Like all Henckels knives, this cutlery set carries a lifetime warranty. --Rivers Janssen
